INVESTMENT PHILOSOPHY

Coby, Marty’s father, had a vision of making every one of his clients rich. Marty’s investment philosophy is not so different from his Dad’s. He believes in choosing investments that match each individual client’s risk tolerance and objectives. He believes in diversifying a portfolio to ensure the right balance of asset classes, geography and investment style. And most of all, he believes that through careful spending and wise investing everyone has the opportunity to become financially independent. When it comes to growing your money, there are only 3 elements that determine how much you will have when you retire:

  1. the amount of money you invest initially or each month,

  2. the time you have for it to grow, and

  3. the rate of return.

Of these 3 things, the most important element is not money, but the time for your money to grow.

BIOGRAPHY

Marty Kobayashi is an Investment Advisor with over 30 years of experience in the financial services industry. Following in his late father’s footsteps, Marty joined Coby at Regal Capital Planners Ltd. in 1989. Coming from a computer programming background, Marty demonstrates an acute attention to detail that contributes to his close relationship with his clients. Under the patient guidance and mentoring by his Dad, Marty eventually became Branch Manager in 1999 with 25 advisors under his supervision. He is a top-performer in the company and has made President's Club many times throughout his career.

Marty draws on his leadership skills both from his work with iA Private Wealth and his volunteer work with the Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre where he has been an active member since he was 8 years old. He has dedicated much of his life to the JCCC, becoming the youngest and longest serving President on the Board of Directors and volunteering at innumerable events over the years. In fact, Marty’s vision for community involvement and support contributed to his decision to move his offices onto the second floor of the JCCC. He is a recipient of an Ontario Volunteer Service Award for 50 years of service, and in 2016 he was awarded the Order of the Rising Sun, Gold and Silver Rays, the highest honour bestowed upon civilians by the Government of Japan.

Marty loves chocolate, cars, karaoke, and popcorn. His favourite vacation spot is Hawaii, and he considers it to be like his second home.

It doesn’t matter if he’s around the corner or around the world, Marty is always on the job. His long hours and many weekends spent at the office are a testament to his steadfast dedication and commitment to his clients. As Confucius once wrote, “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.” This is no less true for Marty as he is truly one of those people who loves his job. Whether you’re looking for advice on your finances or need help buying a new car, Marty is as reliable as he is hard working and that’s a big part of what makes him so good at what he does.
